Dang! [26 Jun 2006|10:03pm]

So tonight I walked down to campus (I live about three blocks from it) and I was strolling around taking pictures, and found one of those memorial walks...you know, the ones where you buy a brick and have something put on it for all posterity?

I found a rather interesting one off to the side...

Napoleon Dynamite Night! [21 Jun 2006|03:27pm]
What: Napoleon Dynamite Night!

When: Monday, July 10th at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Jane B. Holmes Public Library in Helena, AL

Who: Persons from ages 7-21. Contestants will be grouped as follows: 7-10 year olds, 11-14 year olds, 15-21 year olds.

How: Come dressed as your favorite character from the hit movie, Napoleon Dynamite and be ready to perform a “skit”. Your skit MAY NOT BE LONGER THAN 30 SECONDS, and should be original/creative, depicting a situation that would fit into that character’s persona, but IS NOT a scene from the movie. For example: Do show Pedro being interested in Summer Wheatley, but don’t reproduce his “build her a cake or something” scene. Or, maybe have Uncle Rico living his life if his “time machine” actually worked and he “took State”.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! Call 664-8308, or come by the library at 230 Tucker Road, Helena, AL. Registration closes on July 8th at 2:00 p.m. Please note…this event will be cancelled if there’s a lack of interest/registration. So, tell all your friends!

Contestants will be judged by the following criteria:
1. Costume/Physical Appearance (how closely you resemble your chosen character)
2. Live/Vocal Performance (how well you imitate your chosen character’s voice & mannerisms)
3. Skit Originality (something new and creative with your character).

In the event of a tie, contestants will perform his/her skit again, and the audience will select the winner by applause. The “Grand Prize” winner will be selected by the judges from the three age group winners. Judges’ scores/opinions are final with no do-overs or appeal. Good Luck!

Prizes: A surprise! Let’s just say, they’ll be Sweet! Yessssssssssssssss.

Liger, Get Ready For Your Closeup: Jon Heder Scores Production Deal (via ohnotheydidnt)

Actor will assist in development and creation of animated and live-action films, and act in them.

by Larry Carroll

In movies like "Napoleon Dynamite" and the recent "Just Like Heaven," rising star Jon Heder's animated personality has endeared him to audiences.

Now, thanks to a new deal with Universal Pictures, his work will literally be animated.

"I love animation. I'd like to do it myself someday," Heder said recently, adopting the voice of his most famous character. "I'm pretty good — I can draw a killer Liger."

Although the Lion/Tiger progeny was deemed by Heder in "Napoleon Dynamite" as "pretty much" his favorite animal, it can be assumed that Universal is willing to accept other subject suggestions as well. The first-look deal, which includes both animated and live-action vehicles for the 28-year-old actor, covers the Greasy Entertainment production company he operates with his two brothers. Under the terms of the deal, Jon will assist in the development and creation of the films, and also contribute his distinctive persona both on camera and in the recording booth.

"It's not all I want to do, but I'd definitely like to do it," Heder said of utilizing the skills that earned him and his identical twin, Dan, computer-animation degrees from Brigham Young University; Jon, Dan and older brother Doug all studied film at BYU. Dan is now a character animator (he worked on "The Chronicles of Narnia") and Doug has produced video games with the likes of Tony Hawk.

Adding with a grin that "these just look like fun projects," Jon was already committed to providing voices for two animated flicks before the Universal deal: the comedy "Monster House" (due in July) and the surfing-penguin flick "Surf's Up" (2007). According to Jon, the brothers' new arrangement represents the realization of a goal they set while in school.

Doug and Dan are expected to run Greasy's day-to-day operations, with the power to option material and/or hire writers to develop the Heder brothers' ideas. Universal, which doesn't possess traditional animation facilities, expects the clan to utilize its entertainment backgrounds to create several computer-generated films.

Among his other responsibilities, Brother Jon will be called upon to provide his instantly recognizable voice to the projects, a gig that he claims isn't nearly as easy as you might expect. "To tell you the truth, ['House' and 'Surf'] are two of the most challenging projects I've done yet," he revealed. "You're not in costume, you're not in an outfit, so it's easy physically, but it's not as easy as it might be."

Regardless, the brothers Heder will begin developing projects immediately, with the star of "Napoleon Dynamite" already insisting that he would forsake technology if he gets the chance to embrace his dream project. "I don't know about a CGI Liger. If I ever animate a Liger, it would have to be two-dimensional," he laughed. "Ligers aren't cool enough for computers."

Give Me Your Tots

[22 Oct 2005|12:45am]

This community is too flippin' sweet to die.

To liven up conversation, take a look at what I bought a few days ago:

There are two other 12" versions of Napoleon, one in his prom suit and the other in his gym uniform. Also, there are 6" versions of Napoleon (in his Vote for Pedro shirt only), Pedro and Kip. I'm totally buying them all... eventually.

I have a question.

Does anyone know the name of the song that Pedro's cousins are constantly playing in their sweet low rider? Because I can't get that beat out of my head, and I would like to also blast it.

New-Question? [24 Sep 2005|12:45am]

I'm so happy to find a napoleon dynamite community that's still active. The reason I joined is because 1. I love the movie, and 2.I have a question about a song that was played in the movie. I can't find the song anywhere and it's really bugging me, and i'm hoping someone here knows what it is! The song is played towards the end of the movie, I think it's the second to last song. It starts right after Pedro smiles when everyone is clapping when napoleon did his dance, and it sounds kind of like violins or some sort of string instrument. It plays for a while, like when Kip goes on the bus with LaFawnduh and when the woman on the bike goes to Uncle Rico's van. There's no dialogue though, just music for about 2 minutes or so. I think this was a pretty descriptive idea of the song, and if anyone knows the name of it/who it's by/anything please let me know! Thanks so much.

Movie quotes [23 Sep 2005|11:41am]

What's your favorite quote?

I like when they're watching Uncle Rico's video, and when Napoleon says it's the worst movie ever made, Kip says, "Napoleon, like anyone can even know that."

**Edit: I also like:
Kip: Are you serious?
Uncle Rico: I'm dead serious.

And this isn't a line, but the expression and little smug chuckle Kip gives after the "Your mom goes to college" quote.
